2014 Picture Book 10 for 10

I have been making a concerted effort to read more picture books in the last year, and with my work on the Wisconsin State Reading Association's (WSRA) Children's Literature Committee, it has given me even more reason to. And then, when I found out I would have an additional 10 minutes for each class period this coming year, I decided I would do a picture book #bookaday read aloud each of the 178 days that I see my students this coming school year. That's a lot of picture books I need to know. Even more reason to share in my #pb10for10 post. Last year, since it was my first year participating, I chose to make the list my favorites. This year, I decided to think back on all the books I've read this year that are 2014 releases and do a list of my Top 10 Favorite Picture Books of 2014 (so far).
My #pb10for10 Favorite Picture Books of 2014 (so far)

  1. I still need to read Pardon Me-much positive everywhere about it. I loved This Is A Moose and Flight School-awesome. How great to start choosing 178 picture books-something to write a book about? Changes in behavior of students? Conversations? Writing? Hope you'll share more!

  2. Hunters of the Great Forest looks adorable. Love that you are planning to do all of this picture book reading! So many great titles out there and the choosing is a lot of fun. Great list!

  3. Thrilled to hear that you'll be using your extra time to read aloud ... picture books even in middle school! Yeah! Kids are never too old ... so bravo to you! I have Flight School & Pardon Me here from the library and need to read it! You mentioned so many titles I have not even hard of yet! Now I'm off to see if my library has them yet ... Thanks for sharing!

  4. Jillian,
What a smart way to spend your ten minutes each day. I can't wait to hear how it goes. I appreciated your list of 10 new titles from 2014. There are many new books on this list I want to check out. Flight School and Pardon Me are at the top of my list. I'm glad you took the time to post. I always love your perspective as you consider using picture books with older students.
